Ο Πέτερ Μαγιάρ δεν είναι ένας «τυπικός» αρχηγός της αντιπολίτευσης. Είναι ένας άνθρωπος που μεγάλωσε πολιτικά μέσα στην τροχιά του Βίκτορ Όρμπαν, υπηρέτησε σε κρατικές και θεσμικές θέσεις, έζησε στο εσωτερικό του μηχανισμού εξουσίας και τελικά έγινε εκείνος που, σύμφωνα με τα αποτελέσματα και τις διεθνείς αναφορές της 12ης Απριλίου 2026, οδήγησε το κόμμα Tisza σε νίκη που έβαλε τέλος στη 16χρονη κυριαρχία του Όρμπαν στην Ουγγαρία. Ο Μαγιάρ γεννήθηκε το 1981 και, όπως έχει πει ο ίδιος, γοητεύτηκε από πολύ νωρίς από την πολιτική, βλέποντας ως παιδί την περίοδο της μετάβασης μετά την πτώση του κομμουνισμού. Από εκεί και πέρα, η πορεία του εξελίχθηκε εντός του κρατικού και κομματικού οικοσυστήματος που οικοδόμησε ο Όρμπαν: σπούδασε νομικά, εργάστηκε ως δικηγόρος και στη συνέχεια πέρασε από σειρά θέσεων σε θεσμούς και οργανισμούς συνδεδεμένους με το ουγγρικό κράτος. Στο επίσημο βιογραφικό του στο Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο αναφέρεται ότι υπήρξε ασκούμενος δικαστής το 2003, δικηγόρος το 2006, νομοθέτης για θέματα ΕΕ στο υπουργείο Εξωτερικών το 2010, επικεφαλής της Διεύθυνσης Νομικών Υποθέσεων ΕΕ στην Hungarian Development Bank το 2018, μέλος διοίκησης της Hungarian Public Roads, διευθύνων σύμβουλος του Student Loan Centre την περίοδο 2019-2022 και αργότερα επικεφαλής της Good Farming Ltd. Στην προσωπική του ζωή, η πιο γνωστή δημόσια σύνδεσή του ήταν ο γάμος του με τη Judit Varga, μία από τις πιο προβεβλημένες πολιτικές φιγούρες του καθεστώτος Όρμπαν και μετέπειτα υπουργό Δικαιοσύνης. Το ζευγάρι χώρισε το 2023. Η μεγάλη στροφή ήρθε το 2024. Το όνομά του συνδέθηκε άμεσα με την πολιτική καταιγίδα που προκάλεσε το σκάνδαλο χάριτος σε υπόθεση που αφορούσε συνεργό σε υπόθεση παιδικής σεξουαλικής κακοποίησης. Η τότε πρόεδρος Καταλίν Νόβακ παραιτήθηκε, ενώ και η Judit Varga αποχώρησε. Την επόμενη ημέρα, ο Μαγιάρ έδωσε μια συνέντευξη που έγινε viral, επιτιθέμενος ανοιχτά στο σύστημα Όρμπαν, καταγγέλλοντας διαφθορά, κλειστό κύκλο εξουσίας και μηχανισμό προπαγάνδας. Αυτή ήταν η στιγμή που πέρασε από το παρασκήνιο στο κέντρο της πολιτικής σκηνής. Από εκεί και πέρα, η άνοδος ήταν εκρηκτική. Στις 15 Μαρτίου 2024 μίλησε μπροστά σε χιλιάδες υποστηρικτές στη Βουδαπέστη και σύντομα το πολιτικό του εγχείρημα πήρε οργανωμένη μορφή μέσα από το Tisza. Στις ευρωεκλογές του 2024 το κόμμα κατέγραψε περίπου 30%, μετατρέποντας τον Μαγιάρ σε ευρωβουλευτή και στον πιο ισχυρό αντιπολιτευτικό πόλο απέναντι στο Fidesz. Το επίσημο CV του στο Ευρωκοινοβούλιο αναφέρει ότι από το 2024 είναι πρόεδρος του TISZA και μέλος του Ευρωπαϊκού Κοινοβουλίου. Το πολιτικό του στίγμα δεν είναι εύκολο να χωρέσει σε ένα απλό ιδεολογικό κουτί. Οι διεθνείς αναλύσεις τον περιγράφουν ως κεντροδεξιό και φιλοευρωπαϊκό, αλλά όχι ως κλασικό φιλελεύθερο. Η καμπάνια του έδωσε έμφαση στη διαφθορά, στο κράτος δικαίου, στην υγεία, στις μεταφορές, στους χαμηλούς μισθούς και στον πληθωρισμό — δηλαδή στα καθημερινά προβλήματα που αγγίζουν άμεσα τους Ούγγρους ψηφοφόρους. Την ίδια στιγμή, κράτησε πιο προσεκτική ή συντηρητική στάση σε ορισμένα θέματα, αποφεύγοντας σκληρές τοποθετήσεις σε ζητήματα που θα μπορούσαν να πολώσουν ένα ευρύτερο εκλογικό ακροατήριο. Αυτό ακριβώς είναι και το παράδοξο του Μαγιάρ: είναι προϊόν του ίδιου συστήματος που υπόσχεται να αποδομήσει. Για κάποιους, αυτό είναι το μεγαλύτερο μειονέκτημά του. Ο άνθρωπος του εσωτερικού που δεν έκοψε ποτέ πλήρως τον ομφάλιο λώρο με τον ουγγρικό συντηρητισμό. Για άλλους, είναι το μεγαλύτερο πλεονέκτημά του. Ο μόνος που γνώρισε από κοντά πώς λειτουργεί το καθεστώς Όρμπαν και άρα ο μόνος που θα μπορούσε να το χτυπήσει αποτελεσματικά. Το AP σημειώνει ότι αυτή ακριβώς η γνώση «από μέσα» είναι που έκανε πολλούς ψηφοφόρους να πιστέψουν ότι αποτελεί την πρώτη πραγματικά αξιόπιστη εναλλακτική απέναντι στον Όρμπαν από το 2010 και μετά. Η δημόσια εικόνα του επίσης έπαιξε ρόλο. Το Reuters και το AP περιγράφουν έναν πολιτικό που κατάφερε να μετατρέψει τις συγκεντρώσεις του σε μαζικά γεγονότα, με προσωπική επαφή, selfies με υποστηρικτές και μια σχεδόν «κινηματική» δυναμική, ιδιαίτερα σε μια κοινωνία κουρασμένη από την αδυναμία της παραδοσιακής αντιπολίτευσης να αμφισβητήσει σοβαρά τον Όρμπαν. Η εκστρατεία του χρησιμοποίησε πατριωτικά σύμβολα, εθνικό λεξιλόγιο και μια αφήγηση «ηθικής αποκατάστασης» της χώρας, επιχειρώντας να αφαιρέσει από το Fidesz το μονοπώλιο στον πατριωτισμό. Η προσωπική του διαδρομή, πάντως, δεν έμεινε εκτός πολιτικής αντιπαράθεσης. Μετά τη ρήξη του με την εξουσία, η πρώην σύζυγός του Judit Varga τον κατηγόρησε για κακοποιητική συμπεριφορά στη διάρκεια του γάμου τους. Ο ίδιος αρνήθηκε τις κατηγορίες και υποστήριξε ότι επρόκειτο για πολιτική προσπάθεια απαξίωσής του αφότου στράφηκε εναντίον του Fidesz. Το θέμα αυτό παραμένει μέρος της δημόσιας εικόνας του και εξηγεί γιατί, παρά τη ραγδαία άνοδο, παραμένει και διχαστική φιγούρα. Σήμερα, όμως, το βασικό πολιτικό γεγονός είναι άλλο: ο Πέτερ Μαγιάρ δεν είναι πια απλώς ο πρώην άνθρωπος του συστήματος. Είναι ο νικητής των εκλογών της 12ης Απριλίου 2026 στην Ουγγαρία, με τον Βίκτορ Όρμπαν να αναγνωρίζει την ήττα του. Reuters και AP μετέδωσαν ότι το Tisza εξασφάλισε καθαρό προβάδισμα και οδεύει σε ιστορική κοινοβουλευτική επικράτηση, τερματίζοντας μια περίοδο 16 ετών κατά την οποία ο Όρμπαν κυριάρχησε στο πολιτικό σύστημα της χώρας. Το κρίσιμο ερώτημα από εδώ και πέρα είναι αν ο Μαγιάρ θα αποδειχθεί απλώς ο άνθρωπος που νίκησε τον Όρμπαν ή ο πολιτικός που θα καταφέρει να αλλάξει την Ουγγαρία μετά τον Όρμπαν. Γιατί η δύναμή του γεννήθηκε ακριβώς από αυτή τη διπλή του ταυτότητα: είναι ταυτόχρονα ο insider και ο ανατροπέας, ο γνώριμος και ο νέος, ο συντηρητικός πατριώτης που επιχείρησε να φορέσει το κοστούμι της αλλαγής. Και κάπως έτσι, ο άνθρωπος που κάποτε είχε τον Όρμπαν στον τοίχο του δωματίου του, βρέθηκε τελικά να γράφει το πολιτικό του τέλος. Ο πρόεδρος των ΗΠΑ Ντόναλντ Τραμπ είπε σε δηκτικό τόνο σε δημοσιογράφους χθες Κυριακή ότι δεν είναι ακριβώς «μέγας θαυμαστής» του πάπα Λέοντα Ιδ΄ -μια ημέρα έπειτα από σφοδρή αντιπολεμική παρέμβαση του αμερικανού προκαθημένου της ρωμαιοκαθολικής εκκλησίας-, αφού μερικές ώρες νωρίτερα του επιτέθηκε φραστικά μέσω Truth Social. «Δεν είμαι μέγας θαυμαστής του», δήλωσε ο ρεπουμπλικάνος σε δημοσιογράφους στην αεροπορική βάση Άντριους, στο Μέριλαντ, προσάπτοντάς του πως είναι «υπερβολικά φιλελεύθερος» (σ.σ. ο όρος που χρησιμοποίησε ο αμερικανός πρόεδρος παραπέμπει γενικά στους δημοκρατικούς) και «δεν πιστεύει στον αγώνα εναντίον της εγκληματικότητας». Λίγο νωρίτερα, ο Ντόναλντ Τραμπ δημοσιοποιούσε στον ιστότοπο κοινωνικής δικτύωσης που του ανήκει μακροσκελή ανάρτηση εναντίον του πάπα, προσάπτοντάς του φύρδην μίγδην πως υποστηρίζει το υποτιθέμενο πρόγραμμα απόκτησης πυρηνικών εξοπλισμών του Ιράν, ότι εναντιώθηκε στην αμερικανική στρατιωτική επιχείρηση στη Βενεζουέλα τον Ιανουάριο και ότι συναντήθηκε με συμπαθούντες του δημοκρατικού πρώην προέδρου Μπαράκ Ομπάμα -- μεταξύ άλλων. «Δεν θέλω έναν πάπα που επικρίνει τον πρόεδρο των ΗΠΑ, διότι κάνω αυτό ακριβώς για το οποίο εκλέχτηκα, με συντριπτική πλειοψηφία, δηλαδή μειώνω την εγκληματικότητα σε ιστορικό χαμηλό και δημιουργώ το σπουδαιότερο χρηματιστήριο στην ιστορία», τόνισε ο αμερικανός πρόεδρος. Ο ρεπουμπλικάνος σχεδόν ταυτόχρονα ανέβασε εικόνα δημιουργημένη από κάποιο εργαλείο τεχνητής νοημοσύνης στην οποία παρουσιάζεται, με λευκή και κόκκινη τήβεννο, να βάζει το χέρι στο μέτωπο αρρώστου, κλινήρη στο νοσοκομείο, πλαισιωμένος από ανθρώπους που προσεύχονται ή κάτι προσμένουν, και στο φόντο αμερικανική σημαία, το Άγαλμα της Ελευθερίας, καταδιωκτικά, αετούς και άλλες μορφές. Ο Λέων Ιδ΄, στην πιο έντονη παρέμβασή του από το ξέσπασμα πολέμων σε όλο τον κόσμο, ειδικά στη Μέση Ανατολή, έκρινε προχθές Σάββατο ότι η θρησκευτική πίστη είναι απαραίτητη «για να αντιμετωπίσουμε μαζί αυτή τη δραματική στιγμή της ιστορίας». «Φτάνει πια η ειδωλολατρία του Εγώ και του χρήματος! Φτάνουν πια οι επιδείξεις δύναμης! Φτάνει πια ο πόλεμος!
